Snack gourd puttu


I love snake gourd puttu from my childhood. I learnt this awesome & tasty puttu from my mother which she learnt it from my grandma. She makes it very often & we like to have this with sambar. Now, it has become our family recipe followed through generations. Addition of roasted gram dal makes this dish unique & yummy. Besan can also be used instead of roasted gram dal. I like to have this with ghee & warm rice. It taste divine :)

Ingredients :
  1. Snack gourd - 1 medium sized
  2. Oil - 1 tbsp
  3. Cinnamon stick - 1 no
  4. Cloves - 2 nos
  5. Onion - 1 large sized
  6. Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
  7. Green chillies - 1 to 2 nos
  8. Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  9. Chilly powder - 1 tsp
  10. Salt to taste
  11. Roasted bengal gram (pottukadalai) - 1/4 cup
  12. Corriander leaves
Method :

1. Clean & cut the snake gourd to small pieces. Finely chop the onions. Keep aside.

2. Heat oil in the pan, add cinnamon stick & cloves. Add finely chopped onions & saute.

3. Add ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder & finely chopped green chillies. Saute.

4. Add chilly powder & chopped snake gourd. Spri
nkle little water & cook till done.

5. Meanwhile, grind the roasted bengal gram coarsely and add them to the cooked snake gourd. Pour some oil if required. Cook on low flame for 10 mins.

6. Finely, add finely chopped corriander leaves.


Serve with rice.
